The property and its spaces
The Westin Poinsett lists nine event rooms. The two ballrooms do the heavy lifting for a wedding: the Poinsett Ballroom at 78 by 42 feet and the Gold Ballroom at 75 by 43 feet, each with a 24-foot ceiling. Marriott's capacity chart lists the Poinsett Ballroom for 250 at banquet rounds and the Gold Ballroom for 250 as well.
The hotel also lists the Spoonbread restaurant for intimate wedding events and the Poinsett Hotel Rooftop for newlywed portraits during the reception. Wedding guests can book a room block.
Sound and hosting at the Westin Poinsett
Ballrooms are where a host earns their keep. With 250 seated guests, a 24-foot ceiling and a rectangular room, I set speakers on stands at the front and add delay speakers partway back if the room is long, so the toasts are clear without being loud.
The hotel's equipment list includes a PA system and microphones. Hotels often have their own AV rules, so I ask early whether an outside DJ and host can bring a full rig and how the hotel handles load-in. I did not find a published outside-vendor policy, so I confirm it with the events team.
I plan the flow with you and the hotel's planner: ceremony, cocktail hour, grand entrance, dinner, toasts and dancing, with clear cues to the staff.
Lighting, power and effects
A 24-foot ceiling gives room for beam lights above the dance floor and warm white wash on the walls. I keep the palette warm white and white unless you ask for color, and I use small fixtures rather than big trusses so the ballroom still feels like a ballroom.
I ask where the ballroom's floor and wall circuits are. I send a power plan listing my lights and sound on ordinary 20 amp circuits, and low fog on its own dedicated 30 amp circuit. Hotels often restrict fog, haze and sparkler effects because of fire alarms, and the Westin Poinsett does not publish a rule that I found, so I confirm with the venue and get approval in writing.

Planning notes for couples
Ask the hotel about load-in times and elevator access, since downtown hotels often have tight windows. Ask too about outside vendor fees, and the plan for moving from ceremony to reception.
The hotel is in downtown Greenville, so your guests can walk to restaurants. Book your room block early.
